Review and evaluate County and Sonoma County Employees’ Retirement Association (SCERA) published reports. Present annual committee updates to the Board of Supervisors covering the following topics: committee activities; independent analysis of trends and key takeaways observed in County and SCERA reports; innovative pension reform strategies being pursued in other local or state jurisdictions; synopsis of articles, studies, publications related to pension reform; and additional recommendations that could help the County further improve the public’s understanding of the pension system. Refer to the committee’s approved charter for additional information. [Please see attached Charter]

  • Membership Composition

The committee will be comprised of seven members appointed by majority vote of the Board of Supervisors. The initial seven 2017 committee appointees will be nominated by the co-chairs of the Board of Supervisors’ Pension Ad Hoc committee. Future year appointees will be nominated by the presiding Chair and Vice Chair of the Board of Supervisors.

All members must be a resident of Sonoma County. Ideal committee members will have the ability and commitment to listen and weigh information with an open mind, engage and fully participate in the development of recommendations, and bring professional skills and expertise and/or the ability to articulate a perspective from their experience which represents the diversity of our community. Since much of the information related to pension systems is of a financial nature, demonstrated aptitude in dealing with financial information would be very helpful.
